Details

Musa sp. 'Jamesonii' is a newly introduced ornamental wild banana species originating from the higher, cooler regions of India. With proper mulching, it can survive temperatures as low as -5 °C.

This elegant and slender plant displays bluish-green foliage and a silvery shimmering pseudostem at maturity. It typically reaches a height of 1 to 4 meters and often grows in clusters with multiple pseudostems emerging from one base.

Its leaves are broad and dark green, resembling those of fruit-bearing bananas, making it ideal for creating a lush, tropical atmosphere. The plant produces pale flowers in drooping clusters. Although the fruits may taste sweet, they are not edible due to being full of seeds.

As an ornamental, it’s an excellent choice for shaded or partially shaded garden spots, containers, or even indoor tropical environments. It is easy to care for – it prefers rich, moist soil, high humidity, and protection from strong winds.
