Musa maclayi var. erecta is a wild, seeded banana variety native to the tropical forests of New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

The plant produces reddish sap and is known for its unusual upright inflorescence and fruiting stem. Its fruits are rounded, often closely packed together, and in some forms partly fused along the edges.

The species is named after the Russian naturalist and explorer Nicholas Miklouho-Maclay, who was the first to describe it. Compared to cultivated varieties, wild Musa maclayi has a much taller stem, stiffer, narrower leaves, and smaller, inedible, seed-filled fruits.
